Jump Shot
Shooting while jumping to break vertical-axis prediction — shifting the axis of a duel.
Left-right strafing is easy to read in the higher ranks, so the idea is to add vertical movement to disrupt tracking. While airborne you cannot change your landing direction, and against single-shot flick heroes like Widowmaker and Hanzo the counter of "wait for the apex of the jump" turns you into a target instead. It works against Plat and below, but higher up the vertical movement becomes part of the read as well — "why it stops working at the top" is the core of this term. Where crouch spam moves your head height up and down, this is a different mechanic: a large movement along the vertical axis. Since you cannot alter your trajectory while airborne and your path is easy to read, there are only limited situations where it is worth jumping while you shoot and making the prediction of your own hitbox easier in the process.
When you feel your left-right strafe is being read by a tracking hero, add vertical movement to break the rhythm. Only effective at close range or in a brawl where your trajectory is hard to read, and only when no single-shot flick sniper is on the enemy team.
Jumping repeatedly against Widowmaker or Hanzo and becoming a flick target. Or higher-level opponents reading the apex of your jump and landing shots in a cluster. Or your jump trajectory becoming a single fixed line, so you only take more damage while your own return fire never lands.
