Ego Peek
Taking a duel peek in a losing situation with no basis for winning it, overtrusting your own aim.
A concept set against pre-fire and calculated off-angle peeks, used as the dividing line between "showing your face with a reason" and "showing your face without one". Peeking for a duel while down numbers, at a bad angle, or on low HP and missing means instant feed, a collapsed formation, and handing the enemy a 5v4 — the worst possible trade. In casts and VOD review it shows up constantly as the split in evaluation, "was that peek ego or calculated", a double-edged piece of slang applied to great plays and blunders alike. It has value as a frame for asking "why did you take that peek", training players to verbalize the basis for a peek (lines of fire, HP, CD status, teammate positions).
In VOD review, when asking "what was that peek for." Sort peeks taken without the enemy's resources confirmed, without friendly line-of-sight support, or on low HP into ego or calculated.
Peeking while knowing you are down numbers or at a bad angle, believing "aim solves everything," and instantly feeding the moment you miss, collapsing the formation. Or over-correcting: criticizing ego peeks so hard that even justified aggressive peeks dry up and play locks into passivity.
Pre-fire
Pre-aiming a known spawn point or pathing route to win the first frame of contact.
Off-angle
Solo position offset 60–120° from the main formation, enabling crossfire while taking minimal return fire.
High Ground
Elevated map position offering downward sightlines, cover, and safe retreat — the foundation of most setups.
